Winners of 2006 TIPA Awards

April 18th, 2006. The Technical Image Press Association (TIPA) has announced the winners of their 2006 European Photo and Imaging Awards.

Nikon has earned top accolades with the Nikon D50 for "Best Entry Level Digital SLR", the 10.2 MP Nikon D200 DSLR for "Best Expert Digital SLR Camera" and the AF-S VR Micro Nikkor 105mm f/2.8G IF-ED for "Best Professional Lens".

In awarding the Nikon D50 the "Best Entry Level Digital SLR", the TIPA editors note: "The ergonomics are well thought out and no major feature or function is missing. In the field, the Nikon D50 gives a performance beyond what is expected at this price point. "

Canon also takes home three of the prestigious awards with the 12.8MP Canon EOS 5D digital SLR voted "Best Professional Camera", the Canon Powershot SD630 (named Canon Powershot IXUS 65 in Europe) voted "Best Ultra Compact Digital Camera", and the Canon imagePROGRAPH iPF5000 "Best Large Format Printer".

Other noteable winners include; Panasonic with the 5.0 MP, 10x optical zoom Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1 for "Best Superzoom Digital Camera", and Fujifilm with the Fujifilm FinePix F30 for "Best Compact Digital Camera".

TIPA is a non-profit, independent professional organization open to all magazines within the European photo and imaging publishing industry. Each year a group of editor members representing leading photo and imaging magazines from across Europe choose the TIPA "European Photo & Imaging Award" winners by vote.

These prestigious awards for the best photographic and imaging products of the year are widely recognized throughout the industry.
