Conclusion
and Sample Images
The Coolpix
3100 has all the elements, it's small, very light, has good ergonomics
(the handgrip really makes a difference) and a 3x optical zoom
lens. The camera is easy to use, handle and is quick to respond.
The camera's compact body fits easily in a pocket for carry-anywhere
portability.
Shooting is
simplified by general-use AUTO Mode. The new Nikon exclusive Scene
Assistance function (tied to the four main scene modes) provides
for perfectly composed pictures, and allow users to capture the
essence of every situation and fully experience the fun of digital
photography.
The 3100 also
carries the Coolpix badge which is a kind of quality assurance
for potential buyers. The Coolpix 3100 provides excellent optical
performance overall. Coupled with Nikon's image-processing algorithm,
pictures from the camera exhibit vibrant color, contrast and clarity.
I was certainly
pleased with the results of the three 8" x 10" test
images that I printed on an Epson 2200 Photo quality printer.
(Epson Photo Glossy Paper) The camera's Auto White Balance works
very well, and colors are nicely saturated.
Where the Coolpix
3100 really wins is in its combination of size, features, and
image quality. If you are looking for a great little 3 megapixel
camera, the Nikon Coolpix 3100 certainly delivers.
