Nikon Introduces
The Nikon Coolpix 7600

A 7.1 effective megapixel digital camera with a 3x optical Zoom-Nikkor ED lens and functions that correct images in-camera!

February 16th, 2005.

Nikon has today introduced the Nikon Coolpix 7600 compact digital camera, offering 7.1 megapixel resolution and a 3x optical (38-114mm in 35mm terms) Nikkor ED zoom lens.

The Coolpix 7600 features 16 handy Scene modes, four of which offer a Scene Assistance function. These user-friendly modes automatically control camera settings, enabling you to achieve high-quality results with subjects that range from sunsets to underwater.

The Nikon Coolpix 7600 stands apart from other cameras in its class with its handy ability to automatically improve the quality of recorded shots with the touch of a button.

Nikon's exclusive D-Lighting function, for example, can be selected in Playback mode - automatically compensating for insufficient flash or excessive back lighting in order to obtain balanced exposure throughout the frame. Nikon's proprietary Advanced Red-eye Reduction, on the other hand, has the ability to automatically detect and correct red eyes in-camera in most situations.

Nikon Coolpix 7600
Press Release

Press Release, Feb 16th, 2005 - Nikon Canada Inc. is pleased to announce the introduction of the Nikon Coolpix 7600. An easy-to-operate digital compact that combines 7.1 effective megapixel clarity with functions that improve images in-camera, the Nikon Coolpix 7600 enables users to feel more confident about taking pictures.

With 7.1 effective megapixel performance, a resolution significantly higher than most other entry-level digital cameras, you'll have a head start in producing pleasing results. And the 3x optical Zoom-Nikkor ED lens, equivalent to a 38-114mm lens in 35mm format, enables Macro shooting as close as 4cm (1.6 inches), while its ED glass element leads to superior sharpness and optimal colour correction.

A selection of innovative Nikon functions are included to improve the quality of the image even further. Nikon's exclusive D-Lighting function is available in Playback mode for use on images with excessive backlight or insufficient flash. At the touch of a button, D-Lighting keeps bright areas bright, while automatically adding light and detail to the darker parts. Face-priority AF is another key advantage of the Coolpix 7600. Available in Portrait mode, this clever feature automatically finds and focuses on people's faces to ensure sharpness exactly where it is needed. There's also In-Camera Red-Eye Fix - a function that can detect the annoying red-eye effect sometimes caused by flash, and correct it in-camera to leave you with pleasing night portraits. And last but definitely not least, there's Blur Warning, which alerts you whenever a shot is compromised by camera shake, allowing another shot to be taken before leaving the scene.

The Coolpix 7600 is also surprisingly simple to operate. Compact dimensions and a well-designed grip make it feel extremely comfortable in the hand. Its new Graphic User Interface (GUI) lets you select functions by name or by icon, according to your tastes, and a useful HELP button, located conveniently on the back of the camera, provides an explanation for functions on the main menu, No need to worry if you haven't had time to read the manual! The Coolpix 7600 is also easier to use for people around the world, as the menu can be displayed in a total of 12 languages on the large, bright 1.8-inch, 85,000-dot LCD, also ideal for both composing shots and viewing the results. The Coolpix 7600 has even been designed to be more energy efficient - delivering significantly more shots per battery charge. Two AA size Ni-Mh rechargeable batteries and a charger are supplied.

Like all other cameras in the popular COOLPIX lineup, the Coolpix7600 features a selection of handy Scene Modes that make operation even easier still. All you have to do is select the Scene Mode that most closely matches the subject, such as Sunset or Portrait; the Coolpix7600 then takes care of selecting the optimal settings for the best results. Four of the Scene Modes have the additional advantage of Scene Assist, which makes it easier for virtually anyone to achieve more appealing composition. And new to the Coolpix 7600, there's also a BSS (Best Shot Selector) copy function available in Copy mode, which automatically activates the BSS function to achieve the best possible results.

As well as taking great still images, the Coolpix 7600 offers movie shooting capability too. Choose from a selection of five movie shooting modes, two of which can shoot movies at a smooth 30fps. And you can activate Nikon's new Electronic VR (Vibration Reduction) function when you're shooting a movie to achieve more stable results when it's difficult to keep the camera steady. You can also easily connect the Coolpix 7600 to a TV, to enjoy the results with friends and family.

Five Colour Options allow you to be a little more creative with your picture taking. Select one before shooting, and change the mood of an image by making it sepia, or shoot in black and white, for example. The Coolpix 7600 is compatible with SD memory Cards, which are widely available and can store a large number of high-quality images. The Coolpix 7600 has approximately 14MB of internal memory as well, so you can record images even when not carrying any additional media.

The Coolpix 7600 makes printing easy too. Print directly to a PictBridge compatible printer without the need for a computer. The Coolpix 7600 offers the added convenience of being able to select different print sizes actually on the camera. And like all other cameras in the Coolpix lineup, the Nikon Coolpix 7600 comes complete with Nikon's proprietary PictureProject software that offers a wide range of versatile picture management and editing functions and is extremely user friendly.
