We have just posted a series of sample images taken with a production level Nikon Coolpix 8400 digital camera.

If you are a wide-angle fan, you will certainly appreciate the excellent 24mm equivalent coverage provided by the Nikon Coolpix 8400. Currently, this is the only camera on the market to provide this extended wide angle lens range.

Sample image added below taken with the Nikon WC-E75 (x .75) accessory wide-angle lens converter attached. The Nikon Coolpix 8400 provides a focal length equivalent to 18mm in 35mm terms with the WC-E75.

Our overall impressions of the Nikon Coolpix 8400 so far are very favorable. The camera's ergonomics are well thought out, and the new controls are logically placed. The front grip provides for a comfortable hold, and the menu system is easy to follow.

The zoom lens at the 24mm equivalent wide angle delivers very good results with even edge to edge detail. The Nikon Coolpix 8400's Auto White Balance, metering, and other internal functions support the sharp 24mm-85mm equivalent Nikkor Zoom ED lens, to provide images that appear very pleasing straight out of the camera overall.

The Nikon Coolpix 8400 does not exhibit any major problems with chromatic aberration, (purple fringing of highlights, typical of some digital cameras), as can be seen in the "Harbourfront" image taken in harsh afternoon sun with a number of reflective subjects in the image.

The sample images below are all as recorded by the camera (JPEG FINE) and have not been post processed.
