April 2nd. Canon has today announced a $100 mail-in rebate is now available to Canadian and US customers on the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT digital SLR. (Rebates paid in local currency)

With a current MSRP of $1099 CDN for the Digital Rebel XT digital SLR kit with EF-S 18-55mm zoom lens, the final price in Canada is around $1000 (+ taxes) after the discount is applied. A quick online check this morning, has B&H Photo and Video in the US selling the Digital Rebel XT with 18-55mm lens kit for $779 US, less the $100 US cash back offer.

Canon USA Inc. is also offering a $300 mail-in rebate on the higher end Canon EOS 5D digital SLR, similar to the Canon EOS 5D DSLR rebate introduced in Canada last month. Canon USA has additionally announced mail-in rebates on a number of Canon EF series lenses and other Canon EOS accessories. Full details below:

Canon Canada has lowered the manufacturer's recommended price (MSRP) on the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT digital SLR camera kit with the Canon EF-S 18-55mm zoom lens by $100 to $1099 CDN. Canon is also currently offering a $300 CDN mail in rebate on the Canon EOS 5D digital SLR when purchased with an accessory.

Note: Popular rumor has it that Canon USA will be implementing a similar rebate program on the Canon EOS 5D digital SLR by April 1st. We do not have any confirmation of such at this time. (Confirmed 01/03/06)

At the beginning of the month, Nikon Canada lowered the manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) on the Nikon D50 body only and the Nikon D50 kit with the Nikon AF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G zoom lens. The new MSRP on the Nikon D50 digital SLR kit with the DX AF-S 18-55mm lens is $899. The MSRP on the Nikon D50 camera body alone is now $719 CAN. This reflects a $100 manufacturer's price reduction on the Nikon D50. The new MSRP on the Nikon D70s digital SLR kit with the DX AF-S 18-70mm lens is $1399.

Not to be outdone, Olympus Corp. is offering a mail in rebate on the Olympus Evolt E-500 digital SLR. Get up to $100 (paid in US dollars) cash back when you purchase an Olympus Evolt E-500 body only, or the Evolt E-500 with the Olympus 14-45mm zoom lens kit, or the Evolt E-500 digital SLR with two lens kit (Olympus Zuiko 14-45mm & 40-150mm zooms). Applies to both US and Canadian customers.

Pentax Canada has in kind lowered the MSRP on their entry level Pentax ist DS digital SLR kit with 18-55mm lens by $200 from $999 to $799 CDN.
