White balance on the Nikon D2X digital SLR can be fine tuned at all settings except Choose color temp. and White balance preset. Adjustments can be made in the range +3 to -3 in increments of one. Higher settings lend images a bluish tinge, while lowering white balance makes photographs slightly more yellow or red.

Versatile Professional Exposure Control

The following four exposure shooting modes are available on the Nikon D2X DSLR:

  • P (programmed auto): This mode is available only with CPU lenses. If a non-CPU lens is attached, exposure mode A (aperture-priority auto) will be selected automatically. The exposure mode indicator ("P") in the top control panel will blink and "A" will be displayed in the viewfinder.

  • S (shutter-priority auto): This mode is available only with CPU lenses. If a non-CPU lens is attached, exposure mode A (aperture-priority auto) will be selected automatically. The exposure mode indicator ("S") in the top control panel will blink and "A" will be displayed in the viewfinder.

  • A (aperture-priority auto): This mode is available with all lenses.

  • M (manual): This mode is available with all lenses. Shutter speed can be set to "bulb" for long time-exposures.

Shutter speeds on the Nikon D2X range from 30 - 1/8000 sec. A setting of "bulb" is also available. Exposure compensation can be set to values between -5 and +5 EV in increments of 1/3, 1/2, and 1 EV.

Bracketing can also be performed over two to nine frames in increments of 1/3, 1/2, 2/3, and 1 EV (exposure and flash bracketing) or increments of 1, 2, and 3 (white balance bracketing).

ISO settings on the Nikon D2X

Sensitivity (ISO equivalency, the digital equivalent of film speed) on the Nikon D2X can be set to values between 100 and 800 (ISO equivalent) in steps of 1/3 EV. There are also two ISO boost settings available ( Hi-1 and Hi-2)

The 2.5-inch LCD monitor large enough to display various settings and information for easy recognition
The Nikon D2X also improves upon the Nikon D1X, by incorporating a large 2.5 inch 235,000 pixel high resolution LCD monitor display for clearer viewing and larger type fonts also improve access to color coded menus.

A Recent Settings lets the photographer go back and quickly set a particular often used setting from among the last 8 that have been selected from D2X's menu system.

The Nikon D2X also features an RGB Histogram display mode. The RGB histogram can be used to view highlights for each of the red, green, and blue channels. The RGB histogram is only displayed when RGB histogram is selected for Display mode.

As with the Nikon D2H, images can be displayed in the monitor by pressing the playback button. Playback and delete functions can be used until the playback button is pressed a second time or the shutter button is pressed halfway to return to shooting mode instantly.

The Nikon D2X is equipped with a sensor that detects camera orientation at the time a photograph is taken. If Yes is selected for Rotate tall in the playback menu, pictures taken in portrait orientation will automatically be rotated for display in the monitor during playback.

Support for the reproduction of colors in the sYCC range, and support for the broader range of colors in the Adobe RGB profile
Output of JPEG data in the broader range of colors provided by the sYCC color profile found in many of the latest printers is possible so that high image quality can be maintained even with printing from a home printer.

The Adobe RGB profile provides a broader range of colors than does the sRGB profile, making it a more suitable choice for professional photographers. The Nikon D2X digital SLR has been optimized for post-processing of images with the ability to select Adobe RGB from either Mode I or Mode III in camera.

Functions such as World Time, automatic rotation of images captured in portrait (tall) orientation

A World Time function has been added to Nikon D2X for the convenience of professional photographers who are active globally.

Set Up for World Time

The auto image-rotation function made popular with the Nikon D70 DSLR automatically rotates images captured in portrait (tall) orientation so that they are displayed in the same portrait orientation in the rear LCD monitor during playback. Especially useful when the Nikon D2X is set to Slide Show mode and images are displayed on a monitor or conventional TV screen. Images captured in portrait (tall) orientation are also automatically rotated for correct display in PictureProject and Nikon Capture 4 software.

GPS support for the recording of location information with shooting data

Location information such as latitude, longitude and altitude can be transferred from a GPS device and recorded with the shooting data for an image. Nikon has developed the new MC-35 cable (optional) for connection to NMEA0183-compatible GPS devices.
