We cropped the original image in the camera using the Nikon D80 "Trim" feature found in the camera's Retouch Menu and saved it as a copy.

The photo shown above was edited in Nikon Capture NX. In a few easy steps Colour Control Points were used to recover additional highlight details and to reduce a cool background cast. Colour Boost and a slight unsharp mask (USM) was also applied.

The Nikon D80 digital SLR's 420-segment 3D Matrix Metering II system performed well, despite the difficult lighting situation presented in this scene by the uneven backlight from the sun.
