Canon Rebel T3i / EOS 600D with 18 MP and HD Movie

Canon Rebel T3i / EOS 600D front view

Popular Deals:

February 7th, 2011. Canon Inc. has today introduced the Canon Rebel T3i (EOS 600D in some countries) digital SLR. As an updated version of the Canon Rebel T2i (EOS 550D) announced last year, the Canon Rebel T3i incorporates the same 18.0 Megapixel APS-C size CMOS sensor, and the same DIGIC 4 image processor, capturing images at up to ISO 12800 and speeds of up to 3.7 fps.

Like the Rebel T2i / EOS 550D, the new Rebel T3i also features the same 9-point AF system, 63 zone dual metering system, and offers full HD movie recording, with full manual control and external microphone plug-in for sound recording if so desired. Additionally the Canon Rebel T3i features a very similar body design to its predecessor.

In terms of what is changed on the Rebel T3i / EOS 600D the main feature difference is that the Rebel T3i now offers a vari-angle articulated LCD monitor, although with similar specs. The screen size is 3.0-inches with 1,040K dot resolution and provides a wide viewing angle and anti-reflective and smudge resistant coatings like on the Rebel T2i SLR.

The Canon Rebel T3i built-in flash now also offers an Integrated Speedlite Transmitter allowing for wireless activation of dedicated Canon external flash units (optional) for more creative flash photography.

Additional new features include updates to make the camera even more user-friendly than its predecessor, with a 'Basic +' mode (like on the EOS 60D) that allows novice users to make adjustments to image settings with ease by following simple guides.

In automatic shooting modes such as Portrait, Landscape, Close-up, Action and Night Scene, users can access a quick menu screen to make adjustments as per the scene’s ambience. When shooting in one of the Rebel T3i's “Basic Zones” users can make adjustments as per the scene’s lighting or scene type. An easy-to-read menu lets you select an ambience setting from Vivid, Soft, Warm, Intense, Cool, Brighter, Darker to Monochrome, while a Lighting setting allows users to select from Daylight, Shade, Cloudy, Tungsten light, Fluorescent light or Sunset.

Canon has also included a new Feature Guide on the Rebel T3i with an enhanced Quick Settings Screen that now includes detailed descriptions of camera settings. The Feature Guide is designed to help first-time users and beginning enthusiasts better understand each camera setting with descriptions and guided recommendations for when to utilize certain settings. Along with an explanation of camera settings and modes, the Feature Guide includes easy-to-understand directions of how to use particular settings such as aperture adjustment in Canon’s Creative Auto mode.

The Canon Rebel T3i also features a new Scene Intelligent Auto technology, re-branding the "Auto" green mode dial setting found on earlier Canon Rebel models with a boxed “A+” design. This new camera setting now takes Picture Style into account as part of the camera’s “Auto” setting.

By analyzing faces, colours, brightness, movement, and contrast, the camera will dynamically adjust picture-style parameters to match the subject and control vividness.

The Canon EOS T3i Digital SLR camera is scheduled to be available by the beginning of March, and will be sold in a body-only configuration at an estimated retail price of $899.99. It will also be offered in a kit version with Canon’s new EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II zoom lens at an estimated retail price of $999.99 Canadian.

Canon Rebel T3i / EOS 600D Digital SLR Camera Major Features

  • 18.0 Megapixel CMOS Sensor and DIGIC 4 Image Processor for high image quality and speed: The Rebel T3i features the same proven Canon-designed 18.0 Megapixel APS-C size CMOS sensor found in the Canon Rebel T2i. Exclusively designed and manufactured by Canon to work in combination with its own DIGIC processors, Canon’s CMOS technology integrates advanced noise reduction circuitry at each pixel site, delivering virtually noise-free images. In comparison with CCD technology, the lower power consumption characteristics of Canon’s CMOS sensors also contribute to longer battery life.

Signal conversion in Canon’s CMOS sensors is handled by individual amplifiers at each pixel site. Unnecessary charge transfer operations are avoided, vastly speeding up the process of getting the signal to the image processor. Noise is reduced, power consumption is limited and faster frame rate potential is increased.

  • ISO 100-6400 (expandable to 12,800) for shooting from bright to dim light: With a broad range of ISO settings, the Canon Rebel T3i / EOS 600D enables shooting from dawn through dusk. With enhanced, low-noise high-sensitivity optimization, shooting in situations previously possible only with flash becomes as simple as point and shoot.

  • Advanced 1080p Full HD movie mode with manual exposure control: The EOS Rebel T3i does not just shoot video clips, it offers the enhanced ease-of-use, image quality, smooth frame rates and adaptive exposure compensation necessary in a professional video-making tool by boasting the most advanced EOS video capturing features to date.
  • When Full HD (1920 x 1080) is set, you can use Movie Digital Zoom to magnify the center of the image by 3-10x while at the same time maintaining Full HD image quality. With the Video Snapshot feature, the EOS Rebel T3i DSLR will capture short video clips (of 2, 4 or 8 seconds) then combine them automatically into one video file as a snapshot or highlights “album.” With no editing needed after shooting, the compiled video is ideal for sharing online or displaying directly on an HDTV via the camera's HDMI port.

In addition to a number of different recording size and frame rate modes, the EOS Rebel T3i enables easy manual control of exposure, focus and Live View features and even allows for in-camera editing. The large CMOS sensor and compatibility with over 60 lenses provide a wealth of depth-of-field options. And it's all as easy as the press of a button — the EOS Rebel T3i has a dedicated Live View/Movie Recording start/stop button that gets the shooting started fast.

Canon Rebel T3i / EOS 600D SLR Interface Connections

Vari-Angle LCD Monitor: The EOS Rebel T3i features a bright, high resolution, flip-out Vari-angle 3.0-inch Clear View LCD monitor for shooting at a variety of angles. By simply rotating the monitor, you can hold the camera directly overhead for above-the-crowd shots at concerts, or hold the camera at a low angle for kids and pets.

By rotating the LCD monitor fully, the EOS Rebel T3i becomes the ideal camera for self-portraits. The EOS Rebel T3i freely enables easy angle adjustments even if the camera is mounted on a tripod or has a battery grip attached.

  • Scene Intelligent Auto mode: Previously, the automatic setting on a Rebel DSLR camera adjusted exposure, focus, white balance, and Auto Lighting Optimizer, however on the new Rebel T3i, Picture Style Auto is also taken into account as part of the new Scene Intelligent Auto technology. By incorporating this fifth parameter the camera more intelligently analyzes scenes and adjusts settings based on the subject matter being shot.

So when the camera is photographing a face it will reproduce more natural skin tones or blue skies for more vivid landscapes, a flashy red car for more saturated colour and evening sunsets for more expressive images. the Rebel T3i automatically analyzes the image, taking into account faces, colors, brightness, movement and contrast. Scene Intelligent Auto then chooses the enhancing features to deliver maximum impact. Blues and greens are more vivid, “hot” colors are more pronounced, and skin tones are smooth and truer to life.

  • Capable of shooting up to 34 Large / JPEGs or 6 RAW images at 3.7 fps: The EOS Rebel T3i can shoot up to 3.7 frames per second (fps) for up to approximately 6 consecutive RAW files or approximately 34 full-resolution JPEGs.
  • iFCL Metering with 63 zone dual-layer metering sensor: The iFCL system uses focus, colour and luminance information to determine consistently exposed shots. All focus points provide distance information to the metering system to determine the location of the subject and allow the algorithm to weight the exposure accordingly.

The Rebel T3i / EOS 600D featres a metering sensor with 63 zones, compatible with all nine AF points. Typically, metering sensors are more sensitive to red subjects which can lead to overexposure. The Rebel T3i counters this with the dual layer sensor, which has one layer sensitive to red and green light and one that is sensitive to blue and green light. The metering algorithm then compares the level of the two layers and adjusts the meter reading accordingly.

  • Canon Rebel T3i 63 zone metering system

Since the Rebel T3i metering sensor has a color measurement function, exposure errors and focus errors caused by different light sources are minimized; the Rebel T3i gives stable exposure from shot to shot in situations where light changes, such as in a theater or concert hall.

This makes the Rebel T3i / EOS 600D ideal for scenes with extreme difference in brightness such as brightly lit scenes or backlit scenes; the camera balances exposure of the main subject at the background, and exposures are not overly influenced by bright areas in the shot.

  • Multi-Aspect Ratio Shooting: The Multi-Aspect Function of the EOS Rebel T3i lets you express an image in one of three ways by matching the aspect ratio to each scene.

In addition to the camera’s standard 3:2 ration, the Multi-Aspect Function includes a 1:1 ratio that creates the sensation that the viewer's gaze is focusing upon the center of the image. At the 4:3 ratio, you get nearly the same aspect ratio as a regular TV or a 4:3 computer display. The 16:9 aspect ratio provides a wide look, much the same as HDTV.

  • Easy Video Snapshot Mode: Canon’s new EOS Video Snapshot feature borrows some innovation from Canon’s VIXIA line of camcorders for capturing, assembling and playing fun-to-watch video clips. EOS Video Snapshot enables users to capture the video highlights of family vacations, parties or milestone events, with the same ease as taking photos.

Consumers can now record a series of two-, four- or eight-second video clips automatically. The scenes are assembled by the camera into continuous Video Snapshot Album files for easy playback and can even be further edited in camera or through Canon’s Video Snapshot Task software on a compatible personal computer for added flexibility and fun.

  • Canon Rebel T3i / EOS 600D top view

  • User-friendly Creative Filters: Canon’s new EOS Rebel T3i DSLR gives creative photographers some fun in-camera tools that enable users to apply Creative Filters to images after they have been shot without altering the original file. Canon’s new Creative Image Filters, familiar to Canon PowerShot and EOS 60D users, help make an image more dynamic by creating an altered copy of the image through any of Canon’s four artistic filter options:

    (1) The Soft Focus effect filter helps dramatize an image and smooth over shiny reflections.

    (2) The Grainy Black and White filter can give a different nostalgic perspective to any shot.

    (3) Canon’s “Toy Camera” filter deliberately adds vignetting and colour shift for a creative option when shooting a colourful scene.

    (4) Users can also make a scene appear like a small-scale model, simulating the look from a tilt-shift lens, with Canon’s Miniature Effect filter, great when shooting any scene from a high vantage point.

Each of these filters can be applied to a captured still image in-camera to create a second “filtered” JPEG version, leaving the original JPEG file unaffected.

  • Canon Rebel T3i / EOS 600D Digital SLR: Press Release

February 7th, 2011 – Canon today announces the launch of the Rebel T3i (EOS 600D in some countries) – a compact, lightweight Digital SLR (DSLR) that makes capturing exciting, fun and creative images easier than ever. The perfect choice for aspiring photographers looking for a combination of outstanding image quality and ease-of-use, the Rebel T3i sits at the top of Canon’s entry-level EOS line-up, above the existing EOS T2i and the new Rebel T3.

Capturing stunning images and Full HD video has never been easier, thanks to a range of automatic shooting modes that beginners can use to instantly express their creativity. A Feature Guide has been added to the user interface to help you learn about the camera as you use it, helping to develop your photography skills. With an unrivalled range of EF lenses, Speedlites and other accessories to enhance your shooting, the EOS system holds the key to the perfect shot – wherever your journey takes you, and whatever the scene before you.

    First-class image quality
The Rebel T3i provides all the tools to capture beautiful stills and HD movies. Amazing picture detail is provided by a high-resolution 18 Megapixel (MP) APS-C CMOS sensor, which combines with 14-bit DIGIC 4 processing so you can capture the wonder of a beautiful blue sky and enjoy exceptionally smooth gradients between colours. The camera’s low light shooting capability enables you to achieve clear, natural images in darker conditions, with an ISO range of 100-6400 that can be further expanded to 12800.

Great for shooting pets, children or wildlife, the Rebel T3i allows high-speed shooting at 3.7 frames per second (fps), enabling you to capture fast-moving action. Each shot will be captured in sharp detail thanks to the 9-point Auto Focus system, which can track subjects using the auto focus points across the frame. Even more accurate focusing is providing by an extra-sensitive central AF Sensor, while the iFCL Metering system from the semi-professional EOS 7D features a 63-zone Dual-layer metering sensor, helping you to ensure your shot is correctly exposed, even in difficult lighting conditions.

    Easy shooting, amazing results
New fully-automatic Scene Intelligent Auto mode makes it easy for you to capture outstanding quality shots with almost no effort. Allowing you to focus exclusively on framing your picture, Scene Intelligent Auto analyses the scene for you and automatically picks the best settings to capture it. Your images will look better than ever thanks to a new ‘Auto’ Picture Style, which automatically makes fine adjustments to colours while you focus on capturing the scene you want.

The Rebel T3i also makes it easy for you to instantly add creativity to your pictures. Change the atmosphere of a scene with Basic+, which allows you to pick the mood you want to achieve from one of eight options, including ‘Warm’, ‘Cool’ or ‘Intense’. Whether you’re shooting landscapes, portraits, or close-up macro shots, Basic+ makes it easy to capture the perfect image.

    Simple, flexible, artistic
Ideal for beginners, a Feature Guide has been added to the Rebel T3i’s menu system, offering a brief description of each key setting and its effect, helping you learn more about the camera as you use it.

You can also shoot overhead, at ground level or around corners with the Rebel T3i’s Vari-angle 7.7cm 3:2 ratio ClearView LCD. Rich on-screen detail is provided in 1.04 million-dot resolution, and the side-mounted hinge allows users to comfortably and creatively shoot from a range of unusual angles, or when using a tripod. A smudge-resistant fluorine coating and three anti-reflection coatings also ensure you can see the LCD in clear detail, wherever you are.

Allowing you to apply your own stamp to your shots, the Rebel T3i is perfect for experimenting with different Creative Filters. Fish-eye-Effect creates a barrel-shaped distortion similar to a fish-eye lens, and you can instantly turn a scene into a small-scale model with Miniature Effect. Toy Camera Effect, Grainy B/W and Soft Focus offer additional options, allowing you to experiment with your images in a number of different ways.

Canon Rebel T3i / EOS 600D SLR with flash up

Capture stunning detail with EOS movie
Capture your memories in superb clarity with Full HD (1080p) movie mode, while a dedicated movie shooting mode means you can switch between stills and HD video instantly. You can also reach distant subjects using new Movie Digital Zoom function, which crops the centre of the sensor from 3x to 10x while still maintaining Full HD quality – great for capturing wildlife on a safari holiday.

Enabling you to capture more engaging videos, Video Snapshot mode shoots video in two, four, or eight second segments, creating clips that are short, easy to edit and of similar lengths to clips used in most TV programmes. As they are recorded, the clips are saved to a Video Snapshot Album and combined into one movie. A soundtrack can be added by choosing from tracks uploaded to the camera and the result viewed on the camera’s LCD, or on an HDTV via the built-in mini HDMI connection.

The EOS system – unrestricted creativity
As your skills develop, the Rebel T3i grows with you. As part of Canon’s EOS range, the camera is compatible with the unrivalled selection of EF lenses and a range of accessories, so you can add to your kitbag as your ability and style develops. Over 60 lenses provide you with unlimited creative possibilities: wide-angle lenses capture sweeping landscapes, macro lenses capture the most intricate beauty of the tiniest creatures, and telephoto lenses make distant scenes appear as if they are right in front of you.

Using Canon’s range of Speedlite flashes and the Rebel T3i’s Integrated Speedlite Transmitter , you can also experiment with different lighting techniques, or use your flash off-camera, to give your subject or scene a completely different look and feel. With the Easy Wireless function, the camera will also take care of the complicated settings whilst you focus on framing and lighting your scene as you wish.

Introducing the new EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II
Launching with the Rebel T3i is the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II – a new kit lens that provides excellent performance for beginners. A lightweight construction makes it easy to carry, and Canon’s acclaimed optical Image Stabilization also minimises the risk of blur, allowing photographers to use shutter speeds 4 stops slower while still maintaining a blur-free shot. The EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II will succeed the existing EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS in Canon’s lens line-up.
