We have just added a small image gallery of sample test images taken with the new Nikon Coolpix S610 compact point and shoot digital camera.

The Nikon Coolpix S610 incorporates a Nikkor 28-112mm (in 35mm terms) zoom lens providing sharp optical quality based on our tests.

Nikon cameras are generally known for their well balanced exposure metering capabilities and as seen the Coolpix S610 is no exception.

We printed out an 8" x 10" print of this sample image on an Epson photo printer using Epson photo glossy paper and it turned out nice, with rich colour and detail and would look good mounted in a frame.

The Nikon Coolpix S610 / S610c can be left in fully automatic mode or it is possible to override some of the cameras functions.

We tested the Coolpix S610 to see how the camera would perform when a high ISO setting might be appropriate, for example under tougher lighting conditions or when a faster shutter speed is needed.

From this test at 1600 ISO it certainly looks like the Coolpix S610 can provide some nice results when high ISO sensitivity is required.

In this test we tried out the "Active Child" scene mode on the Nikon Coolpix S610 to see how the camera would perform automatically in an "action situation".

There is a very slight amount of motion blur introduced in this image since the 1/250 sec shutter speed that was automatically selected by the cameras exposure system was a little slow to completely freeze the action in this scene. All things considered and the fact that this is an image from a point and shoot we feel that the result is still pretty good.

In this test we specifically set the sensitivity on the camera to 800 ISO (using the Shooting menu) to see how the Coolpix S610 performs under lower light conditions. From this example the Coolpix S610 delivers well maintained sharpness and pretty good detail and colour at this high ISO setting.

We printed a 5" x 7" enlargement of this Coolpix S610 test image at our local photo lab and the result was in our opinion quite acceptable for a compact and we think many should find it suitable for their needs.

Another sample image from the Nikon Coolpix S610 that demonstrates the overall sharp image quality of the 4x optical Nikkor zoom.

The original image was cropped down in size and stills mainstains plenty of detail for an 8" x 10" print.

Colours appear pleasant and natural, a tribute to the EXPEED image processing techologies found in the Nikon Coolpix S610.

In this sample image from the Coolpix S610 we wanted to see how the camera would perform in automatic mode under a difficult lighting situation similar to this. Parts of the image are shaded while other areas are exposed to harsh sunlight, a traditional tricky situation for most metering systems.

The Nikon Coopix S610 did a pretty good job handling this situation and delivered an image that in general appears quite pleasing. The original image was cropped down on size for more esthetic appeal.

For this test shot we decided to see how the "Active Child" mode on the Nikon Coolpix S610 would work on any moving subject.

Our elected 'model' was a little camera shy and tended to move around a fair bit. Out of three shots taken this was our favourite.

Note: The out of focus area towards the lower part of the image is as a result of the shallow depth of field at f/2.7 (selected by the camera)

The Nikon Coolpix S610 is a user friendly camera with 16 user selectable scene modes (as outlined in the Coolpix S610 major features section above).

For this shot we tested the "Close-Up" auto scene mode. For taking macro close up shots the Nikon S610 will allow you to focus down to 3cm from your subject at the wide angle zoom setting.

The Coolpix S610 seems well suited for taking photos for use on eBay.

Based on our hands on test with the Nikon Coolpix S610 we feel that the camera offers good value for the money and a good feature set for someone that is looking for a compact user friendly go anywhere type of camera.

The lens on the Coolpix S610 is nice and sharp and the Nikon metering system combined with EXPEED image processing provides results that in general are well exposed and show good colour.
